Robin Berkelmans

Text Box: Biography Robin Berkelmans (1976) volgde de opleiding dansdocent aan de dansacademie in Tilburg. Hij koos na twee jaar studie een autonome weg te bewandelen. Hij is danser, fysieke speler, dans- en bewegingsdocent en maker van dans en theater. Zijn werk en stijl zijn geworteld in zijn ervaring met, studie en beoefening van hedendaagse dans, locatietheater, fysiek theater, danstheater, dans- en bewegingsimprovisatie, tai chi quan, aikido, somatics, jongleren, Latijns-Amerikaanse dans en capoeira. Hij is één van de grondleggers van het fysiek theater collectief Zure Room die in 2009 uitkwamen als Nieuwkomers van Orkater. Eind 2010 ontwikkelde hij de solo GRITT bij de Dansmakers Amsterdam binnen hun researchtraject. Robin is sinds 2008 als docent hedendaagse dans verbonden aan de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Hij geeft beweging en fysiek theater bij de jongerenafdeling van De Trap en is de nederlandse vertegenwoordiger van de The Inner Way International School van Tai Chi Quan en Chi Kung. ENGLISH Robin Berkelmans (1976) followed the dance teacher department at the Dance Academy in Tilburg. He chose after two years to follow his own autonomous path. He is a dancer, physical performer, dance and movement teacher and maker of dance and theatre. His work and style are rooted in his experience, study and practice of contemporary dance, site-specific and physical theatre, dance theatre, improvisation, tai chi chuan, aikido, somatics, juggling, Latin American dance and capoeira. He is one of the founding members of physical theatre collective Zure Room, which was one of the Nieuwkomers of Orkater in 2009. Last year he developed GRITT at the Dansmakers Amsterdam being part of one of their researchprojects. As a teacher, Robin has been connected to the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten teaching contemporary dance since 2008. Next to this, he is teaching physical theatre at the jongerendepartement at De Trap and he is the dutch representative of The Inner Way International School of Tai Chi Quan and Chi Kung.
